Five O'Clock
Five o'clock and darkness falls,
shadows creep along the walls,
~ here it is the dark blue evening;
I have a melancholy feeling,
here it is the dark blue night;
putting all my dreams to flight,
summer now seems far away ~
how swiftly, swiftly
falls the day.
Five o'clock in deep November,
now the cold comes cutting in,
far away seems bright September,
feel I'm drifting into sin;
my heart is dark,
I fall away,
don't know how to love
or pray;
how swiftly, swiftly
falls the day.
Five o'clock;
my soul is weary,
winters dark night lies ahead;
waking to days cold and dreary,
hear the thoughts in my tired head,
summer now seems far away,
how swiftly, swiftly
falls the day ...
But soon
that sacred day
will come;
when love and hope
are again reborn;
and in that tiny baby's form;
we'll know that life
belongs to
everyone.
And love is just a breath away,
yes, love is just a breath away,
when swiftly, swiftly
... falls
the day.
